Minis Report Under 10s
In our first outing of the season Clonmel welcomed Fethard under 10s.
As the first game kicked off and it was a case of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object as the game started at a frantic pace with neither team conceding an inch.
The ball carrying, passing, tackling and rucking of both teams was immense.
Some wonderful Clonmel passing and some very strong clear outs at the ruck led to Oisin Amos crashing through the Fethard defence for the first score of the game.
Straight from the tip off Fethard hit back with a score of their own running straight through the Clonmel defence for a well taken try.
With both teams now up and running a great contest ensued. Huge tackles were now coming in from newcomers Dennis and Mathew and with Martinez wreaking havoc at the breakdown a long pass from Aoife Colwell put Daniel Morris into space. With lightening footwork Daniel was through the Fethard defence for a score.
Fethard now came back hard at Clonmel with wave after wave of runners and only the immense tackling of Cian O'Mahoney and Colm O'Mahoney keeping the Clonmel line intact.
With the game now up for grabs and neither team yielding an inch it was the work rate and energy of Bill Looby and Sam Maker that kept Fethard at bay.
In the second game, so as not to be out done, another hugely entertaining encounter took place.
Fethard started the game much quicker with some great passing and fast running leading to some quick scores.
Now the Clonmel team had to rally and the tigerish tackling of newcomer Beth and the work rate of Johnny Macclean and Mathew Downey, Clonmel were quickly into their stride. With Jack Dunne and Aaron O'Dwyer carrying strongly and making the hard yards a gap opened up for James Armitage to burst through before being brought down by a great tackle. The ball was quickly recycled thanks to some very abrasive rucking by John James and Sam O'loughlin. A lightning fast pass from the base of the ruck by Brían had the ball in the hands of Paddy Spellman who forced his way through a gap in the defence to score.
With both teams now at full flow the game continued at a ferocious pace as both teams clocked up the scores.
Fethard were running hard at the try line until Clonmel player Cailean O'Dea engaged in a wrestling match for the ball with a number of players only to emerge through the other side of the maul with the ball in hand then offloading the ball to team mate Cailean Morrison who broke upfield and dodged his way through a number of defenders for the last score of the game.
Well done to players and coaches for a highly enjoyable morning of rugby.
