Old Christians 7 Clonmel 48
Clonmel travelled to Old Christians, Cork for their second League match of the campaign. In fine but blustery conditions they got their first bonus point of the league. The score does not do justice to Christians who played some good quality rugby throughout.
In the early stages it was nip and tuck between both teams until Clonmel through Greg Carroll got a good breakaway try. Conor Cooney converted. Then with the forwards beginning to take control Conor Cooney added a penalty to leave them leading 10---0 at half time
On the resumption Christians had a player yellow carded. Clonmel capitalised on this adding 3 further tries by Robbie Carroll, Dylan Cadogan and Garret Mulcahy with Conor Cooney converting all three from difficult angles. Clonmel now lead 31-0 going into the final quarter. However, Christians availed of a patch of scrappy play as Clonmel made many changes and scored a converted try leaving the score 31-7. Coming towards the closing stages Clonmel with their forwards dominant and the backs running good angles scored an unconverted try by Dave O'Gorman and two further tries by Greg Carroll and Neville Melbourne, both of which were converted by Conor Cooney. Leaving Clonmel 48-7 winners. This was a solid performance by Clonmel who saw young scrum-half Dean Slattery make a fine debut. Next up we are away to Richmond in Limerick next Sunday.
