Tournament
Thanks to everyone for making it a great success.
Congratulations to all the winners and the nearly winners.
A big thanks to all our Sponsors too and Four Star
Pizza for their generous donations of pizza every week.
We will be doing all again next year so an e-mail
will be going out in early 2007 to remind you all to get the boots
out. Anyone who has the "bug" and wants to play the real thing, we
would love to have you! We have two men's teams, a ladies team and
numerous underage teams for both sexes.
Training will start again at the end of July - you
can visit the website for details.
Tag Rugby Will Be A Real Festival!
Just when we thought that it couldn't get any
bigger, it did! Because of huge demand locally, this year's Tag
Rugby Festival at Clonmel Rugby Club will see 56 teams going into
action. Tag Rugby is the latest social sport to storm the country
and the Clonmel event is regarded as one of the best.
The Festival kicks off with the usual Launch Night
at Eldons this Thursday evening (31st) at 8.30 p.m. The draw will be
“live”, with all 56 teams being divided into 8 groups of 7 teams
each. Picking a winner at this stage would be impossible, but
Bulmers are showing serious intent with 5 teams in the race! It's
all about fun really and if your team doesn't have the next Brian
O'Driscoll, don't worry – there are three grades of competition –
Cup, Shield and Plate. There will also be prizes for the “best
dressed” team, “best named” team, etc.
But the real emphasis this year will be on the
“festival” aspect and the rugby club have expanded the tournament to
feature “fringe” events – as usual there will be the barbecues and
the discos, but this year there will be two “live music” nights –
you can also try your luck on the “bronco bull” or on the “gladiator
bed”. There will also be Sumo Wrestling and a Bungee Run – if that's
not to your liking, each team will have the chance to compete in a
Tug-O-War contest over the six nights.
Munster mascot, “Murty”, will also make two
appearances while there will be an adult “bouncy castle” for those
of you who have failed to grow up yet! All the fun and side-shows
kick off on Thursday 7th June – it's going to be busy – please make
sure that your team is always on time for kick-off.
Dear all,
It's that time again!! Tag Rugby 2007 is
here! Time to dust off those boots and get training! Tag Rugby
is running from 7th June to 12th July inclusive. Entries,
with entry fee, have to be received by Thursday 3rd
May.
Please find attached the Entry Form and Rules for
Clonmel RFC and Eldon's 2007 Tag Rugby Tournament.
This year's tournament will be bigger and better
than every before, with entertainment provided on each and every
night. Please get your entries in as soon as possible as numbers are
limited (48 teams maximum) and there is already a big demand!
The main change this year is the use of official
Tag Rugby shorts in place of Tag Belts. This has been
implemented as a Health and Safety issue as there were a number of
injured fingers last year and we want to avoid a repetition of this
at all costs. This has necessitated an unavoidable increase in
the entry fee, which is purely to cover the cost of the
shorts. These shorts MUST be worn and will be provided to all
teams on the launch night (date to be advised). At only €5 per night
for unlimited fun, fun, fun, we're sure that you won't find better
value this summer!
Any questions, call any of the numbers attached to
the entry form. Feel free to forward this e-mail onto all your
friends and enemies! Further information will be available on http://www.clonmelrfc.com/tag_rugby.html.
We will be opening the club for training in May, details of days and
times will be provided in due course.
Looking forward to seeing you all this summer.
What is Tag Rugby
Tag Rugby, which has become a craze over the past
few summers in Dublin , Cork , Galway and Limerick , that has hit
Clonmel with a bang last summer and now the town cannot wait for
this year's Festival. This is a FUN game, with no physical contact
of any kind allowed – it is also essentially a mixed game – every
team playing must have two ladies on the pitch at all times during a
game.
Clonmel Rugby Club, in association with Eldons'
Embar, (Clonmel's unofficial rugby headquarters) will again host
this tournament which will run from Thursday 7th June to Thursday
12th July. Each team involved can enter a panel of 10 people, with 7
players on the pitch at any time. Each panel may have a maximum of
two registered rugby players, be they male or female.
Again, there is no physical contact. Each player on
the pitch must wear “Tag Shorts”, which are purchased as part of the
entry fee – the shorts have a felcro strip on each side, to which is
attached a “tag”. Pulling off one of these tags constitutes a
“tackle” – when a team has not scored and has been “tagged” five
times, they must hand over the ball to the opposing team and the
game recommences. The game is played as in rugby – the ball is
carried forward or passed (backwards, not forward) from player to
player as they approach the opposing end-line. A “try” is scored by
placing the ball behind the end-line of the opposing team. See the
attached rules for further details.
The whole emphasis in this festival is on having
the craic and meeting people – there will be a barbecue after the
games each Thursday night and we hope to have live music and discos
each night as well. If you want to watch the World Cup you can see
it on big screen in the clubhouse. This is an ideal opportunity for
pubs, clubs, businesses, etc. to get a team out and have some fun.
There will be a range of prizes – Cup Winners / Plate Winners / best
male and female players / best dressed team, etc.
Watch this space over the coming weeks for lots
more information on the best event to hit Clonmel for some time.
There will be an official launch in Eldons' on Thursday 25 th May at
which the tournament draw will be made. Entry forms can be
downloaded on this page or got from mailto:clonmel_tagrugby@yahoo.ie.
It is hoped to have “Tag Rugby” t-shirts available shortly.
