Jean Lonergan - Womens Team Captain 07/08

Training, tactics, bumps and bruises and, of course, 'the craic' is part and parcel of being part of Clonmel RFC Ladies team.  And it's nearing that time of the year again to dust off the boots and remould the gum shields in preparation for another season.

Last season saw the team putting a huge amount of work into training.  With each game in the league improvement was evident and we went from strength to strength resulting in us beating Navan in the Division 2 All Ireland League final.

As a result this year we will take part in the All Ireland Division One League and it is a great honour for me to captain the side for their first of many seasons in this division.  There are now eight teams in the Division One league which will ensure there will be seven hard games to be played.  Although there will be fewer games than Division Two, the skill levels and pace of the games will be far superior.  This will be a big step up for the team and would be unrealistic to think we will take the division by storm.  However, this team do not take new challenges of this calibre lightly but will rise to the occasion and I have no doubt that the Clonmel ladies will cause a few upsets before the league comes to a close.  Last season in the Cup competition we defeated Galwegians and put up a great display against UL Bohemians, two seasoned campaigners in Division One.

I would like to thank Michael Briggs, Michael Hoyne and Fergus Timmons for all the time and effort they have given to the team especially in training and on match days.

To Clonmel Rugby Football Club for all the support given to us through out the year.

So, if you are interested in joining either for the ' craic' or the rugby we would love to see you.  Training takes place in the rugby club on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm and Fridays at 7.00 pm.
