Clonmel 25 Boyne 0
Clonmel Ladies take their first Division 1 scalp.
The early start and the long bus journey to Boyne RFC in the county of Louth, and even the loss of a cherished wallet, was worth all the effort with Clonmel securing their first Division 1 victory in their second game.
Clonmel started well at kick-off as they set themselves up in the Boyne 22. After two disallowed tries, Clonmel were at last granted just reward for their continued pressure when Niamh Briggs cleverly scored from a quick tap. She then converted her own try to give Clonmel a 7 – 0 lead at half time.
The second half started as the first with Clonmel dominating in all aspects of play. Rebecca Hallahan was outstanding in her first outing as fullback, catching plenty of high ball safely and securely.
The pack continued to dominate, holding firm in the scrums and bursting through the defence, in particular Natasha O'Keeffe and Laura Healy. Quick back play lead to two further tries from singer Bernie Carrigan. Niamh Briggs converted another try and kicked two more penalties which left the score Clonmel 25, Boyne 0 at the final whistle.
Our next excursion is away to Galwegians on 4th November. Training every Wednesday night at 7.30 pm and Friday night at 7 pm. All are welcome!
