Youths and Schools

The under age section of the club was started in 1977 by Tim Quigley and Andy Dillon.

This has enabled the club to develop players through the ranks and can boast that all the current First XV have come through the youths and underage ranks. To Clonmel Rugby, this is the future of the game.

We are privileged to be able to field teams at all ages from under 8's to under 20's.

CLONMEL U14s WIN IN THE SNOW

In weather conditions more like Siberia than Ardgeeha Clonmel took on Dungarvan in this penultimate league game on Sunday last. A good performance was needed to compete with Dungarvan who had lost only one game in their league campaign to date. Clonmel having trained hard during the week and learned some lessons from last week's games started strongly and worked for and with each other to great effect. The ball was like the proverbial bar of soap but the handling by both teams was excellent.

Clonmel were controlling the game with the pack hunting down the ball carrier and driving them back time and time again with the backs handling the ball as if it was a summers day.  The work rate was up on previous games and the lads could feel this and worked even harder for each other. After what seemed like an hour into the game with the snow falling hard and 20mins on the real clock gone Brendan Lawlor picked and drove through the Dungarvan defence and snow to get a great try.  It was a ding dong game with both teams giving their all in the artic conditions.

The second half began at the same frantic pace with Dungarvan on the attack and Clonmel defending their line as if their lives depended on it, the seige was finally lifted by a great clearance kick.  From the lineout Clonmel were on the attack again and the pressure eventually told as Dylan Guidera crashed over for a try to seal victory ,with Chris Browne adding the points to leave the score at 12-0.  The ref blew the final whistle and with chattering teeth and smiles all round Clonmel celebrated.  The lessons were well and truly learned and the squad deserves every credit for this great team performance.
